[ Guiding Principles]
As a queer couple, we knew when we planned to have a child that our family would be “different.” We intentionally chose open adoption so that we could continue to have a relationship with our child’s birth parents. Little did we know how beautifully expansive and loving our family would become! In addition to our tiny nuclear family, we have Riah’s birth parents, 2 of his birth grandparents, 6 additional grandparents, uncles, great aunts and uncles, and an entire host of dear friends that we consider family. Families come in all shapes and sizes, and we feel so fortunate that we can embody this in a creative way.
Throughout our year, different members of our family will join us on our epic adventure. We will also be able to spend lots of time together, just the three of us, without the stresses and demands of our workaday lives. We are so excited and grateful to be able to spend this quality time together (though perhaps we will feel differently when we are cooped up in the camper on rainy days!).
